Dear Friends,
On Monday the bells, cross and remaining pieces of the wood bell tower were removed from the porch roof of the building. Thank you to Ralph Clark for taking on this project and coordinating the effort. With the equipment and expertise of Russ and the kind help of Billy Kirkland and his staff of Billy's Bikes, we watched as they carefully strapped and then lifted the cross and each bell off the roof and gently placed them on pallets and into a waiting truck. The largest bell was 500 pounds, wiring had to be cut and pieces of wood sawed apart so it was no small feat. The bells will now be shipped to Ohio where the manufacturer will refurbish them and reinstall them when a new bell tower is built.
You can
see several
photos of the project and
a video of how it was done
There are several large pieces of wood from the bell tower; some is rotten but some is in good condition and we are looking for ideas on if there is something that could be created out of the wood. We are especially calling on woodworkers, historians, artists and creative minds that might have suggestions on how to repurpose the salvageable pieces. Please contact Chuck Sterrett with your thoughts (sssaaab80@gmail.com)
The Property Restoration Team met today and continues to move ahead with insurance and plans for rebuilding. Thanks to all who came and gave input at the recent neighborhood gatherings. It was great to see so many at the four gatherings. We have two zoom gatherings coming up this Thursday and next Tuesday. ZOOM Meeting ID: 702 288 4993

-
Drywall will be distributed next Tuesday in the parking lot of St. Michael's by F.I.S.H. If you are in need of drywall call F.I.S.H. to register for it asap. Contact Manuela, 239-472-4775 or

-F.I.S.H's Medical Equipment Lending program assisted island residents or visitors with equipment they may only need on a temporary basis. - Two temporary trailers were delivered on the island in preparation for setting up a
post office at the Tarpon Bay location. It is hoped to be operational soon.
-The Sanibel City Council voted to establish February 1, 2023, as the date when
Recreation Center Memberships are needed to utilize the center’s facilities. Since reopening the Recreation Center after Hurricane Ian, residents have been able to use the facilities free of charge and without a facility membership.
-The Sanibel City Council voted to change
Sanibel’s post Hurricane Ian curfew to the hours of 12 am-6 am daily. Prior to the City Council’s action, Sanibel’s curfew was 9 pm – 6 am daily. Motorists driving on Sanibel streets should expect to be stopped by Sanibel Police officers during the curfew hours of 12 am – 6 pm.
Hope to see those who haven't attended the in person Neighborhood Gatherings on one of the two zooms coming up;
