Dear Friends,
It was marvelous yesterday to see the parking lot of St. Michael's bustling with activity as we hosted F.I.S.H.'s distribution of 2179 pieces of drywall, buckets of compound, nails, tape, masks and even mattresses in collaboration with Rotary. Many volunteers spent the day directing people to the pick up and delivery lines, using their own trucks and trailers to deliver drywall to island residents and just listening to their stories as they waited to pick up their items. We were happy to participate and lend our facility to this wonderful island outreach. As the island continues in it's recovery, I anticipate several more opportunities like this, and having a presence on the island will allow St. Michael's to be a part of it all.
Right now we have shifted our thinking from renting a temporary structure to considering the Noah's Ark building as the location for our temporary use. We would make essential repairs so the Ark could serve as a temporary structure for worship, office space and community engagement. This will eliminate the costs of renting a temporary structure and would be the most efficient approach to restarting services and activities at our island home, in addition to continuing services at Peace Lutheran.
The Property Restoration Team is hard at work with many meetings and communications with several parties. We hope to have more details on our restoration plan for the Annual Meeting on Sunday, February 19. Stay tuned.
Peace,
Bill+
A reminder that February 20 is the last day that debris can be placed in the right of way by your Sanibel residence and be picked up.
