We have 2 special events coming up, one for our diocese and one for our parish.
This Saturday, September 24th the Very Rev. Dr. Douglas Scharf will be consecrated bishop coadjutor during a service that will be held at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota. Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will be the chief consecrator and preacher. The service begins at 11:00 a.m. The service will be livestreamed. The links can be found here. Then on Thursday, September 29th we will celebrate the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels with a special service commemorating the racial integration of St. Michael’s 60 years ago. We will remember this historic event with a service of scripture, music, prayers and a special presentation by Don Adams. A reception will follow the service and include some historical items on display.
We can be proud of the decision made six decades ago that affirmed the inherent dignity of all of God’s children. There are no second-class citizens in God’s kingdom. Following Jesus, and living His Way of Love, requires treating all of God’s children, every race and color, as a beloved child of God. Fr. Madden is a shining example of putting these words into action.
Peace,
